Types of Insulation Masks

Spray foam, like all trades in the construction world requires its own type of personal protective equipment (PPE). There are the usual things such as boots and gloves. When you are spraying anything there is always a chance of overspray and backsplash. This leaves your face and eyes at high risk, this is why the mask worn while spraying is one of the most important pieces of equipment.  There are a few different options for masks when applying spray foam.

Air-Purifying Respirators (APRS)

Air-Purifying respirators are ideal for exterior spray foam projects.  For example, outside walls or on roof tops. These respirators are not appropriate for confined spaces or in atmospheres with less than 19.5% oxygen. As stated, when doing spray foam jobs, there is a high potential for eye exposure and over spray. That is why when doing exterior spray foam, full face APRS are selected for the job.

Powered Air-Purifying Respirators (PAPRS)

PAPRS are air purifiers that are equipped with a battery-operated blower unit. Which supplies filtered air to the users facepiece. PAPRS are often used in exterior locations or interior, they can be used wherever APRs are typically used. On hot summer days they are especially useful because they provide and air conditioning like affect for the person wearing them.

Supplied-Air Respirators (SARS)

Supplied-Air Respirators are the go-to for interior applications of spray foam. This air respirator provides breathing air from an outside source. For example, a compressor, or a bottle of compressed air. When used properly SARS can provide the greatest level of protection for the wearer.
